Uganda Bible Project Blog |
Uganda Bible Project is dedicated to giving Bibles to all in Uganda who yearn to read and study God’s Word, but lack access or the means to get a Bible. God’s Word in the hands of the people is a simple, yet powerful tool that is bringing transformation to individuals, families, and communities. UBP distributes Bibles through established, ongoing partnerships with local ministries and churches in Uganda who demonstrate a commitment to outreach and discipleship. Just $6 buys a Bible for someone in Uganda with 100% of all donations going directly to the purchase of Bibles. |
This is where God first began to lay the need for Bibles on my heart. Ggaba is a fishing community nestled along the shore of Lake Victoria on the outskirts of Kampala. There in the middle of a crowded third story classroom I met Daniel
I spoke to Daniel for a few minutes and he shared some of his story with me. He had given his life to Christ 6 months ago and was attending a local church, but he told me he didn’t own a Bible or have the means to get one. I thought about the faith that it would take to hear the gospel, believe, and attend church, having never actually read the Bible yourself.
Then Daniel said, “I need to know how to forgive.” He told me there were people in his life that he needed to forgive, but he was unsure how to forgive, or what that meant as a Christian. I shared some scripture with Daniel, tried to offer some advice from my own life, and prayed with him.
I realized that one of the reasons Daniel had questions about forgiveness was because he wasn’t able to read and study the Bible. I thought about all the questions I would have if I was in Daniels position. I have taken for granted what a blessing it is just to own a Bible. For most of my life, my general attitude toward the bible could be described as apathetic at best.
Through conversations and stories in Uganda and at home, God continued to lay the need for bibles on my heart with greater and greater intensity.
What would your life look like if you didn’t have a Bible? What questions would you have, like Daniel, if you had no opportunity to read and study the Word?
