“I need a bible.”
It was this simple request from Yusuf, a Muslim high school student, which made me realize we had to do something to meet the need for Bibles in Uganda. I promised Yusuf that although I wouldn’t be able to get him a Bible personally before I left Uganda, I would make sure he received one.
Before leaving Uganda I passed Yusuf’s information on to my friend Kennedy, the pastor of one of the local churches we partner with in Uganda. Our team was able to leave Kennedy with enough money to purchase a small amount of bibles. I told Kennedy about my promise to Yusuf, and asked him to follow up and get Yusuf a bible.
I’ve shared over and over again this story of meeting Yusuf, and how God has used it to lay on my heart the need for Bibles in Uganda. But of course, this is just the beginning of the story for Yusuf.
A few weeks after I had left Uganda, Kennedy met with Yusuf and gave him a Bible. Yusuf wanted to meet with Kennedy again to ask more questions, but asked for time to go home and read and study the Bible for himself and talk with his mother.
Last week Kennedy shared with me that he followed up and met with Yusuf again. This time Yusuf brought his sister and they both gave their lives to Christ!
It is energizing to see lives already being impacted. Kennedy has shared that there are already many more stories of lives being changed; and this is through only the small amount of Bibles we were able to leave last June.
