Uganda Bible Project Blog |
Uganda Bible Project is dedicated to giving Bibles to all in Uganda who yearn to read and study God’s Word, but lack access or the means to get a Bible. God’s Word in the hands of the people is a simple, yet powerful tool that is bringing transformation to individuals, families, and communities. UBP distributes Bibles through established, ongoing partnerships with local ministries and churches in Uganda who demonstrate a commitment to outreach and discipleship. Just $6 buys a Bible for someone in Uganda with 100% of all donations going directly to the purchase of Bibles. |
Last week I had the opportunity to attend Catalyst in Atlanta with 13,000 other young influencers working for the Kingdom in churches, ministries, and missions. Every year Catalyst asks attendees to bring supplies and donations to support various causes and organizations as part of the Convoy of Hope. I was honored when the Catalyst team offered to include Uganda Bible Project as one of their causes this year. We were able to collect 245 Bibles and New Testaments. That is 245 people in Uganda who will be equipped with their own Bible for the first time! With the close ties of family and community in Uganda, most of these Bibles will be used and shared by multiple people as well.
This was the first time we have collected Bibles on a local level to ship to Uganda. Until now we have only been raising money and buying Bibles in Uganda from Biblica. To be honest, one of my concerns about doing a Bible drive has always been the fear that we would get mostly archaic translations of worn-out secondhand Bibles that their previous users had just been waiting to discarded. This fear was in no way realized. In fact, as we boxed up the Bibles I was actually impressed at the quality of the Bibles donated and even the number of brand new Bibles donated. I think we really honor our brothers and sisters in Uganda by giving them quality Bibles that they will treasure.
So to all of you who attended Catalyst last week and brought a Bible to give to those in Uganda: Thank you! I can tell you from firsthand experience that these Bibles will be treasured and consumed with great passion by their future owners and many others. I truly believe that to equip a believer with the full Word of God is one of the greatest gifts we can give to our brothers and sisters in Uganda to encourage and build them up in their faith.
All the Bibles collected at Catalyst have been donated to our partner Sports Outreach Institute. Sports Outreach is actively engaged in many outreach and discipleship programs in some of the neediest areas of Kampala and Gulu. Check out their website to learn more about what they do and support their work in Uganda.
If you missed us at Catalyst and still want to put a Bible in the hands of someone in Uganda or share the need with others check out our website ugandabibleproject.org or give $6 and we’ll put a Bible in the hands of someone in Uganda for you.
